In her practice, Elise Van Schaik focuses on a comprehensive approach to patient care. This includes the interconnectedness of biology, psychology, social and spiritual health while promoting health and wellness.
About Elise Van Schaik
As a young child, Elise immigrated to Canada from The Netherlands with her parents and four siblings.
Like any new immigrants, life held its challenges learning a new language and adjusting to changes in culture while her mother worked towards re-licensing in Canada from a Pediatrician to Family Physician.
Vicariously through her mother’s passions and work, these life experiences guided her down the path of her own professional career.
Elise has worked as a nurse for many years. A lifelong learner, her original work in a variety of in-hospital clinical areas led to practices in community health clinics, including provincial, federal, territorial northern and urban indigenous communities.
She has journeyed through many practice areas including occupational health where she transitioned clients through their workplace injuries to optimal health and return to work.
This provided valuable insight into the world clients are required to navigate when dealing with third party insurance companies and community health care resources.
Elise as Nurse Practitioner
Over ten years ago, Elise Van Schaik found her passion as a Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner (PHC NP), she has never looked back.
Nurse Practitioners are the fastest growing health care category across Canada (NPAO). They are authorized to diagnose a wide range of health problems, order and interpret diagnostic tests and prescribe medication and other treatments including referrals for treatment and to specialists.
As a Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner, registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario, Elise Van Schaik is available on an as needed consultation basis. This includes episodic care and assisting clients to access health care services through their insurance plans.
She sees people of all ages for health promotion, disease and injury prevention, therapeutic treatment, and rehabilitation. She screens and treats for the presence of chronic disease and provides wellness care.
In addition, Elise integrates mental health support to clients through a primary health care model.
Elise provides Medical Aesthetic services with a high standard of safety and care with a focus on positive aging. Client goals and a tailored treatment approach is followed to provide optimal aesthetic outcomes. Clients interested in Positive Aging are motivated to minimize the signs of facial aging. They want natural and subtle results that eliminate the ‘sad’, ‘tired’ and ‘angry’ expressions that can result from facial aging.
Elise will also be offering neuromodulator treatment for medically indicated conditions such as chronic migraine and hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).
